Elopement – WHAT? I didn’t know what to think of it for a long time. Elopement means secretly traveling to a place and getting married – just the two of you!

For me a wedding was a celebration with the most important people – until my first experience with it. I was allowed to do my first elopement at the castle in Heidelberg and I am totally thrilled. For some people it’s just the right thing!

A lovely couple from Missouri had a crazy idea and they instructed wedding planner Katrin Schmülling to create an exceptional plan. Katrin packed a several day wedding package with arrival and sightseeing in Heidelberg, romantic highlights and a wedding ceremony at Heidelberg Castle at sunset.

We only started the preparations a few weeks before the event. Katrin booked a house next to the castle with a fantastic and stunning view – the house of the Alte Leipziger Landmannschaft Afrania.

I gave a speech for the wedding couple in perfect time for the sunset. The ceremony was made even more touching by Darling Diane’s live singing.

After the ring exchange, we went into the garden for a glass of champagne. The food was served directly on the terrace by rental chef Annette Popig.

My fun gift

The wedding couple loves to do beer tasting when they are on vacation. I asked them what they do together on special occasions. They answered: We love to enjoy a cheap beer together. So I went to provide them with the beer from my student days: Oettinger! The two were about to set off to visit the Oktoberfest in Munich a few days after their wedding.

As they returned, the bride told me that they enjoyed the Oktoberfest as well as the Oettinger beer: “It tasted delicious!” – I am happy about the compliment.

Naturally, I explained my intention in a welcome letter. Two days prior to the wedding I sent a sealed letter to the couple’s hotel. I wanted them to perfectly prepared for their wedding ceremony. In addition, I had to explain my fun gift for sure!

My conclusion on eloping instead of having a big wedding

My elopment experience surprised all of the attending people  – the couple, photographer, chef, wedding planner and her assistance and myself!

Today I can say from the bottom of my heart: for some people it’s just the right thing. Elopement: YES PLEASE!

Two amazing and warm-hearted people said yes to each other in a bicultural wedding ceremony in the old “Schlosskapelle” at the Heidelberg Castle. Despite all cultural differences and social pressure they chose to live in a romantic relationship and to get married.

Love – this means:

‘The right person will come along and you will not do anything to keep them interested for the simple fact you will be enough’.

The groom

Or in other words:-):

‘Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited. It is never rude of selfish. It does not take offense and it is not resentful’.

International love story

Both of them came to Germany with hopes and dreams. They left everything familiar behind in Bulgaria, respectively in India. They both knew they wanted to stay, to study and to find a good job. Eventually, it turned out to be the journey of their life: they found the love of their life.

Last year they went to Neuschwanstein to see the Fireworks on New Years Eve. The very first minute of the new year 2020, the groom went to one knee to ask his love: “Will you marry me?”

I quoted the bride‘s words during the wedding ceremony: “I love this man. I love everything he stands for. I love how good he is. I love his personal growth. I love who I am when I am with him.”

Wedding ritual from Bulgaria

The bride’s mom prepared a traditional wedding ritual from Bulgaria: After they exchanged the vows and rings she presented fresh bread with salt and honey to the newly-wed couple. It symbolizes the good and the bad times they will go through.

My dear love birds: one day you will go to the top restaurant at the Eifelturm and you will not be forced to leave the wine behind. Your future is full of secrets, joy and growth. I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart.

Ihr sucht eine individuelle Erinnerung für euch und eure Hochzeitsgäste? Max ist Illustrator und hält Konferenzen in Bildern fest. Auf dem Fensterlunch am Fensterplatz in Heidelberg stellte er mit seiner Kollegin Lara Schmelzeisen vor, was damit möglich ist. Und oh wunderbar: auch einen ganzen Hochzeitstag können die beiden graphisch darstellen, vom getting ready über die Trauzeremonie bis hin zu den Gästen, die zuviel Schnaps ordern.

Wer sich fragt, was das kostet: es kommt wie immer darauf an, etwa 1-2 Tage Arbeit stecken mindestens in dieser wertvollen Darstellung. Meldet euch bei Interesse bei Lara Schmelzeisen und Max Bachmeier. Ich persönlich finde die Idee, ein ganzes Leben graphisch darzustellen, auch sehr spannend. Quasi „The biographical novel“. Über den Fensterplatz und das Fensterlunch

Der FensterPlatz ist ein Projekt der Breidenbach GmbH und wird durch das „Förderprogramm Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft“ der Stadt Heidelberg gefördert. Einmal im Monat lädt die Kultur-und Kreativwirtschaft Heidelbergs zum Netzwerken an den Fensterplatz ein. Hier treffen sich Freiberufler, Gewerbetreibende, städtische Mitarbeiter und alle anderen erleuchteten Personen, um sich beim veganen Food Truck etwas zu essen zu besorgen und den abgefahrenen Ideen zu lauschen, die ihre Mitmenschen vorstellen.
